Other Scholarships

The following are scholarships geared toward Iowa students both entering or continuing College, Vocational/Technical Schools mainly within the State of Iowa. To apply for any scholarship listed or to see a list of requirements please click on the application link and follow the instructions. All scholarship applications and any required information must be postmarked by February 15.

E.A. AND LUCILE ANDERSON SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship awarded yearly to graduating senior with 3.5 grade point average or above, enrolling in a post-secondary institution and an active leader in church, school, and community affairs. Preference to students from churches of the Chariton United Methodist Parish.
$300 Application


MATILDA EYE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior enrolling in a vocational school, private or public university or college or community college. Preference given to United Methodist students graduating from Hampton High School, Hampton, Iowa. United Methodist applicants must submit a letter from their Pastor stating the student is a member of the United Methodist Church and detailing the student's church involvement. Signed financial statement must accompany the application.

JUSTINE E. GRANNER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Annual scholarship awarded to American Indian or other ethnic minority students preparing for a career in nursing, public health and/or related fields at a college or school of nursing within the State of Iowa. Must have a "B" or better scholastic average during high school and/or college up to time of application. Preference to graduates from Iowa High Schools. Financial need considered.
$1,000 Application


DARRELL C. AND MURIEL DENISON JENKS SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship awarded to a high school senior who is a member of and active in the United Methodist Church. Applicant must be recommended by the pastor of the local church holding applicant's membership and must have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Financial need will be considered. An essay of up to 250 words must be written describing "What Jesus means to me personally and how I serve him."

KEMPERS HISTORY SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship awarded yearly to declared history major (freshman or upper class) who is enrolled as full-time degree seeking student at an Iowa United Methodist affiliated college. Applicant must exhibit a Christian philosophy of history, be good conveyor of ideas, and communicate well. Financial need considered.
$1,770 Application


ALICE J. McGIVEN ENDOWMENT FUND
Mrs. McGiven originally created this fund at her alma mater – Westmar College. The applicant for this scholarship must be planning to enter the ministry or do missionary work and must be attending a United Methodist college in Iowa.

RUTH ELLEN MOORE SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship awarded to graduating senior or upper class student attending college full time. Applicant must be an active member of First United Methodist Church in Manning, Corning, or Collegiate (Ames) or any U.M. Church in the Muscatine District. Applicant must attend Iowa Wesleyan or Simpson College.

THE MOTHER CARRIE SCHOLARSHIP
Annual scholarship award to student who is or will be enrolling in a community college, college or university in study leading to a degree in full time Christian service (preference to pastoral or diaconal ministry). Preference to members of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Urbandale, IA. Financial need considered.

ETHEL CRUMPLER PIERCE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship awarded annually to graduating senior Brooklyn/Guernsey/Malcolm High School. Recipient must have "B" or better scholastic average for prior three-year period and attend a Methodist related college or school of higher education. Preference to members of Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, Iowa, and those pursuing studies related to the health care field (excluding physical education or coaching).

LOUISE REEP SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship awarded yearly to graduating senior who is enrolled as first time (not necessarily first year of college), full time degree seeking student at an Iowa United United Methodist affiliated college. Applicant must be member of Iowa United Methodist Church. Financial need considered.

TOM AND JEAN ROBB SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship awarded to student attending an accredited college, university or community college. First preference to members of Grace United Methodist Church, Moravia, Iowa, and based on scholarship potential, Christian values and leadership.

RUTH SPECHT SCHOLARSHIP
The following criteria will be used for selection: a. must be a graduating high school student enrolling in a United Methodist College in Iowa. b. must be a member of a United Methodist Church. c. scholarship potential and involvement in church, school and community activities will be considered. All applicants must submit the following: 1. Iowa United Methodist Foundation application; 2. high school grade transcripts through the middle of senior year; 3. two letters of recommendation: one must be from a teacher or counselor and one from the student's Pastor stating that the student is a member of the United Methodist Church and detailing the student's church involvement; 4. a signed financial statement must accompany the application.

JANET V. STEWART SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship awarded yearly to graduating senior who is enrolled as full-time degree seeking student at an Iowa United Methodist affiliated college. Must be a member of an Iowa United Methodist Church. Financial need considered.

MARY AND ORLIN TRAPP SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship awarded to a scholar who has been a student for at least one full year in Science or Mathematics, including Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Botany or Zoology. Will be awarded primarily on demonstrated outstanding scholarship and a broad range of superior attributes including honesty, high moral character, ethics, integrity, initiative and leadership ability and is not based on financial need. First consideration to members of Protestant or Catholic church. Must attend Iowa United Methodist college.

MELISSA WOODLEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship awarded to a full-time junior or senior student attending an accredited college. Preference to students attending an Iowa United Methodist college or the University of Northern Iowa. Recipient must be a member of a United Methodist Church and have a 2.5 or above cumulative GPA and be enrolled in curriculum preparing for a career in social work or social service. Financial need will be considered.

KURTUS RYAN MILLER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Kurtus was the son of The Reverend Matt and Carol Miller; older brother to Christena, Melissa and Sara. In 1997, Kurtus graduated from West Hancock High School. He married Laura Goepel in 1999 and, shortly after moving to Iowa City, an arson fire took Kurtus’ life at age 20. Kurtus was courteous, helpful and an average student interested in the FBI/Criminal Justice. Learning did not come easy for him, but he was determined to succeed. We, his family, pray this scholarship will help you in your determined studies. God bless you!

ELVA JANE DECKER SCHOLARSHIP
A Kansan from Wichita, Elva Decker provided funds for this scholarship that would assist a student to attend Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, one of the four Iowa United Methodist Colleges.

GILBERT GUENTHER SCHOLARSHIP
Mr. Guenther of Britt, Iowa established a scholarship in his name to help Iowa students attending college in Iowa further their education.

CHRIS AND FRANCES WAGLER SCHOLARSHIP
The Waglers, former directors of the Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa, attended the United Methodist Church there. Chris and Frances Wagler have established a scholarship fund to assist a graduating student from Davis County High School to attend either Iowa Wesleyan College or Iowa State University.

THE CARROLL MITCHELL
SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Must be a member or constituent of Tipton United Methodist Church. Applicants of all ages and levels beyond high school shall be considered but first year post high school will be given preference. Applicant must disclose a realistic financial plan. The scholarships awarded as follows: 1) to someone who has demonstrated a commitment to working in the ministry, Christian education, mission training, etc.; 2) to students attending an accredited college, technical school or area school.

MOSHER/DUTTON
SCHOLARSHIP FUND
A scholarship was established to aide full members of the West Liberty United Methodist Church who are either an entering freshman or upperclassman at an accredited college, university, technical or trade school. Academic success, strong moral character, involvement in church and community, as well as financial need, will all be considered as important criteria.
